Witcher 3 Remastered Smashes 11-Year-Old Steam Record

The free update pushed the RPG past 120,000 concurrent players on Steam, beating a peak that had stood since January 2020.

The Witcher 3 Remastered launched only hours before it broke the game's own record for concurrent players on Steam, a peak that had stood since early 2020. The free update pushed the game to 120,324 people playing at once, comfortably clearing the previous high of 103,329 set in January 2020, when the first season of the Netflix series sent interest soaring. The original launch month had peaked at just over 92,000 back in 2015. CD Projekt Red acknowledged the milestone online, telling players that it means the world to the studio to see them set out on the Path again.

The figure was still climbing as the day went on, and with the United States, the United Kingdom and much of Europe in the middle of a working day, another jump over the coming weekend looks likely. Because the remaster is free for anyone who already owned Wild Hunt, there is little friction for lapsed players thinking about a return. The update also bundles every previous expansion. The base game is discounted on Steam to $24.99 right now, and the whole release doubles as a warm-up for Songs of the Past.
