Warhorse Dev Hopes GTA 6 Opens Door to Pricier Games
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 co-founder Martin Klima says higher prices are overdue and needed for the business to survive.
Martin Klima, co-founder of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 studio Warhorse, has said he hopes GTA 6's success pushes the industry toward higher game prices. Speaking to PC Gamer, he argued that Rockstar and Take-Two are among the few companies that can afford, or dare, to raise what games cost, and that GTA 6 should blaze the trail for others. He called a general increase long overdue and necessary for the business to survive, adding that many studios are simply too scared to move first. GTA 6's standard edition is priced at $80, with an ultimate edition at $100.
Klima also conceded that the series does not appeal to him, saying he does not understand its popularity and will not play the new entry, though he praised Rockstar's technical work. His comments follow Take-Two's own push from $60 to $70, led by NBA 2K21 in 2020 and defended by boss Strauss Zelnick on the grounds that production costs had risen sharply. Former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden has argued prices should have climbed with each console generation.
