GOG Preservation Program adds Octopath Traveler 1 and 2
Both HD-2D JRPGs head to GOG with launch discounts and a promise to keep them playable and DRM-free.
Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 are joining the GOG Preservation Program. Product pages for both games are already live, and neither one mentions the October 8, 2026 release date yet. The first game will be discounted by 70% at launch and the second by 60%. As Preservation Program titles, both will be kept updated so they stay playable on modern systems, and GOG notes that they are Windows 11 verified and, like the store's other releases, free of DRM. Both games had previously been sold on PC through storefronts including Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The Octopath Traveler series consists of HD-2D, turn-based JRPGs. Each game gives players eight heroes, every one with a personal story and a class, and lets them multiclass as they develop their party; the second entry added touches such as more interaction between the eight leads. The GOG release follows Square Enix bringing both games to the Switch 2, where they are available now at $59.99 each with no launch discount. The two titles span the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and PC, with the second also available on Xbox Series X.
