Modern Warfare 4 Double XP Tokens Count Only in Matches

Infinity Ward stops 2XP timers draining through lobbies and menus, one of several fan-favourite fixes before the October 23 launch.

From Modern Warfare 4's launch, double XP tokens will tick down only while a match is running, Infinity Ward has confirmed. Until now the timer kept draining in lobbies and menus where no XP could be earned, so a thirty-minute token could lose a large slice of its value between games. Existing tokens carry over and will work in the new title.

It follows the studio's pledge to let Warzone players switch off operator skins taken from older Call of Duty games, arriving with the mode's first season. In a "Road to Launch" video, Infinity Ward staff also discussed time-to-kill, spawning and UI feedback drawn from the betas. Modern Warfare 4 arrives on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC - Call of Duty's first Nintendo release since 2013's Ghosts.
