Shadow the Hedgehog Was Supposed to Die, Sonic Team Says
Sonic Team killed the character off in Sonic Adventure 2 and revived him in Sonic Heroes only after he became a fan favorite, says Takashi Iizuka.
Shadow the Hedgehog was never meant to stick around. Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, Sonic honcho Takashi Iizuka said the character was effectively killed off at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, a game released long after the Genesis era, and that Sonic Team only brought him back because he proved so unexpectedly popular.
Shadow returned in Sonic Heroes and has since headlined his own game and Sonic X Shadow Generations. Iizuka named him his personal favorite and said he wants to give the character a bigger spotlight in the future.
