Path of Exile co-creator cautiously hopeful for Diablo 5
Chris Wilson says Diablo 5's flaming logo and old-style inventory suggest Blizzard is looking back to Diablo 1 and 2.
Diablo 5 was revealed with a cinematic at BlizzCon 2026, and Blizzard has been leaving hints about where the sequel is heading. Chris Wilson, one of the creators of Path of Exile, has now gone through those hints in a new video and come away cautiously encouraged, saying the series had moved away from the kind of game he loved.
Wilson points to details rather than promises. The Diablo 5 logo carries flames in the manner of the first two games, unlike the bare logos of Diablo 3 and 4, and the inventory shown during the announcement uses items of distinct sizes, as the early titles did before uniform grids took over. To him those are deliberate signals that Blizzard may be returning to basics.

Path of Exile
Path of Exile is an action role-playing game with a large passive skill tree and a socketed gem system, so characters are defined by combinations rather than fixed classes. It runs on a league model that restarts the economy every few months.
