Modern Warfare 4 Adds a Counter-Strike Inspired Mode
Eurogamer reports that the next Call of Duty will include Collateral, a competitive mode built on round-based play.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will include a competitive mode called Collateral that draws directly on Counter-Strike's structure, according to Eurogamer. The mode sits alongside the standard Call of Duty lineup and represents the series' most explicit attempt yet to court players who grew up on round-based tactical shooters rather than respawn modes. Details on scoring, economy and map count remain unclear from the initial report, and Activision has not yet published a full breakdown of how Collateral will differ from existing search-and-destroy style playlists. The mode's name signals how closely it follows that template.
The move fits a wider pattern of Call of Duty borrowing proven competitive formats. Extraction modes, ranked playlists and battle royale all arrived after rivals had popularised them, and each has since become a permanent part of the annual release. Whether Collateral ships with the main game or arrives during a post-launch season is not known. The report gave no date for the mode, and the studio has not confirmed whether it will appear in any beta planned before release. Modern Warfare 4 has not been given a release date in the report either.
