Dune Awakening adds a million players on console launch
Funcom says its survival MMO drew more than a million new players in a week around its console debut, with a half-price Steam sale running to October 8.
Funcom's push to bring Dune Awakening to consoles looks to be paying off. The studio reported that more than one million new players arrived in the survival MMO over the past week, a figure that covers the period around its console debut. Dune Awakening had already established itself on PC, where it mixes base building, resource gathering and large-scale conflict on the desert planet Arrakis. Extending the game to PlayStation and Xbox was framed as a significant bet, and the early numbers suggest it found an audience beyond its original platform.
Funcom is also discounting the game to keep momentum going. Dune Awakening is currently half price on Steam through October 8, an offer that applies to the PC version. The player milestone appeared inside Massively Overpowered's weekly MMO roundup, which also gathered smaller items from across the genre, including a seasonal Valheim mod and event plans for several live games. Whether the console audience sticks around will matter more than the launch spike, but the first week has given Funcom a clear talking point.
