Minecraft ice caves bring a frozen zombie this winter
The next Minecraft game drop, due in December 2026, adds ice caves below cold biomes, a hostile frozen zombie and ice crystals you can throw or brew with.
Mojang used the same showcase to tease the next game drop, the quarterly update expected in December 2026. Ice caves are its centrepiece: a rare underground extension of Minecraft's cold biomes, with glowing ice crystals and more environmental variety for anyone digging below snowy ground.
The caves come with a new hostile mob. The frozen zombie applies freezing effects and throws damaging ice balls, which players can throw back as weapons or turn into potions. Mojang described the update as a new layer of variety for cold biomes rather than a rebuild of the whole biome.
