LEC commissioner on growing the league beyond Berlin
Artem Bykov says six arena shows a year are the way to grow the League of Legends European Championship while keeping its formats at home.
Four years ago, holding a League of Legends European Championship event outside the league's Berlin studio was a significant undertaking. In 2026 the LEC is staging six arena shows away from home while keeping its competitive formats at the Berlin venue for the rest of the year, and commissioner Artem Bykov describes that split as the clearest sign of how fast the league has moved.
The balance the LEC is chasing is common across esports: live audiences bring atmosphere and revenue, but touring costs money and disrupts teams. Riot's answer here is a fixed number of road shows rather than a travelling circuit, leaving the regular season stable.
