Larian Dev Sees No Problem With Dawnwalker Time Limit
Baldurs Gate 3 publishing director calls the 30-day countdown a clever narrative tool, while fans keep trying to mod it out.
The Blood of Dawnwalker, the vampire RPG built by former CD Projekt Red developers at Rebel Wolves, hands players a strict 30-day and 30-night schedule and asks them to resolve its main story within that window. Nearly everything else carries a time cost as well, a design that has generated plenty of complaint from players who dislike the pressure it creates. The first major mod released for the game reworks the system entirely, and the developers themselves have said future sequels might drop it or reshape how it works, having already rebalanced it before launch.
Not everyone objects. Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, wrote that he is nearing the end of the game and is surprised by the backlash. He compared the experience to playing Legacy of Kain for the first time, praising its gothic atmosphere and its antagonists, and argued that the countdown is a well-integrated narrative tool that quietly frees players from treating the game like The Witcher. He added that a sequel should lean further into gothic themes, and that he sees a dozen ways the studio could grow the series.
