Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Splices an Army Detour Into Act Two

The modder behind a custom campaign explains why an army fight between Acts Two and Three feels like a natural fork in the road.

A solo-developed custom campaign for Baldur's Gate 3 arrived in beta midway through September, adding an extra chapter to the RPG's main story. The mod, made by SquallyDaBeanz, sits neatly between the game's second and third acts and sends the party through The Chionthar Wilds while the Absolute's Army marches toward the city the series is named after. The modder has now explained why they think this stretch of the established story benefits from a few more forks in the road before the serious business of the final act begins.

Their reasoning centres on pacing. A detour in which the player fights an army can feel like a natural extension of Act Two rather than a bolt-on, because the base game already sends the party in several directions before the plot tightens and the city comes into view. Getting sidetracked, in their view, does not feel too unnatural here. The beta lets players test that argument directly for themselves, and the mod joins a growing pile of large-scale projects that treat Larian's RPG as a platform for entirely new chapters and campaigns.
