Jagex reveals fourth RuneScape MMO and Reignited date
At RuneFest 2026 Jagex announced a fourth RuneScape MMO built in Unreal Engine, and set 2 December for RuneScape Reignited, a new character type.
Jagex used RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham to announce a fourth RuneScape MMO, currently carrying the working title RS4. The studio said the game is being built in Unreal Engine and is set in Gielinor during the Sixth Age, years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, with the adventure beginning in Ashenfall. Jagex described the project as still a few years away and stressed that it will not replace existing RuneScape titles, each of which keeps its own team, roadmap and investment. An animated adaptation made with YouTuber Charlie White was also confirmed.
Separately, RuneScape Reignited is set to launch on 2 December. Jagex pitched it as a permanent new character type rather than a replacement for the existing game: Reignited characters begin with no progress and share a separate economy and hiscores, with no paid progression, while playing on the same worlds and receiving free access to members' content for their first ten days. It arrives in a single update alongside The Adventure Guide and Remastering RuneScape. Some long-time players have objected, arguing the split could fragment a population already thin for group content; a Reddit thread on the topic drew about 1,500 upvotes.
