Heroes of the Storm adds Xalatath after six-year wait

Patch 57 brings the Void villain to the hero brawler, the first addition to its roster in roughly six years.

Heroes of the Storm has added Xal'atath to its playable roster, ending a wait of nearly six years since the crossover brawler last received a new hero. The character arrives with Patch 57, an otherwise unremarkable update number that now carries far more weight. As expected from her role in Warcraft lore, she leans on a broad set of Void attacks, drawing on the powers of the Old Gods and the shadowy force she has long served as a manipulative presence. Her toolkit and talents shipped alongside the patch notes, giving players a fresh option in a game whose character list had grown static over the years.

The addition matters because Blizzard had effectively stopped producing new heroes for the title, leaving its community to rely on balance changes, events and rotations instead. Sliding a current Warcraft villain into the lineup suggests the studio is still willing to keep the game alive with occasional content, even without a full development pipeline behind it. Heroes of the Storm launched in 2015 as a team brawler drawn from Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and Overwatch, and it spent years on limited support. For a player base that had learned to expect little, a fresh character is a meaningful signal. Whether more heroes will follow remains an open question.
