CS2 Player Slide Reaches a Record Seventh Month

September's average fell to roughly 805,000 concurrent players, the lowest monthly figure since February 2024, extending an unusual losing streak.

Counter-Strike 2 recorded a seventh consecutive monthly decline in average players in September 2026, with the average slipping to about 805,000. Steam Charts put the figure at 805,637.82 concurrent players, down 2.38 per cent from August, a fall of some 19,620 players. That is the game's lowest monthly average since February 2024, and the first time across CS:GO and CS2 that the average has fallen for seven months in a row. The September result extends a sustained slide rather than an isolated dip, and the trend matters for the teams, sponsors and organisers who depend on its audience.

The monthly peak still reached 1,450,705 on September 23, and reaction in the community has been mixed. Some players have focused on anti-cheat, debating whether Valve should adopt a kernel-level system, while others welcomed the addition of a Rush mode as a sign that content updates are being taken more seriously. The available figures do not show the new mode reversing the wider trend. ESL Pro League Season 24 began on October 3, with its playoffs set for Katowice on October 9-11, giving the next read on engagement.
