Epic's October Giveaways Lead With System Shock 2
The 25th anniversary remaster headlines the free games on the Epic Games Store.
The Epic Games Store free game programme for October is led by the 25th anniversary remaster of System Shock 2, the sci-fi horror role-playing shooter that Nightdive Studios rebuilt from the 1999 original. The game is joined in the same batch by Buried Stars, a Korean visual novel, the puzzle platformer Out of Sight and the city builder TerraScape. All four are claimed through the store at no cost while the offer runs and stay in the account after it ends.
System Shock 2 originally launched on PC in 1999 and is regularly cited as one of the games that shaped the immersive sim, with its mix of first-person shooting, role-playing skills and a hostile ship controlled by an artificial intelligence. The remaster rebuilt the original engine and added support for modern systems, controllers and widescreen displays while keeping the layout and pacing of the original. Epic has run weekly giveaways since 2019, and October is usually one of the busier months for the programme. The line-up changes week to week through the month, as it does for every Epic giveaway.
