Discord users protest age checks by tearing up Wumpus
Artists are drawing increasingly gruesome deaths for the platform's mascot after Discord called its new age assurance system extremely popular.
Discord's mascot is having a bad week. After the company described its new age assurance system as extremely popular in a post about launch bugs, artists on the platform began drawing Wumpus being torn apart in increasingly gruesome ways as a protest.
The backlash targets age verification rather than the mascot, and it follows criticism of the system since it went live. Discord's own joke about the update gave the protest a slogan, which is rarely a good sign for a platform rollout.
