Directive 8020 Adds Online Multiplayer in Time for Halloween
Supermassive's sci-fi horror game has offered local co-op through Movie Night; online play arrives in October.
Directive 8020 is finally getting online multiplayer, with Supermassive set to add the feature this October. Until now the game's cooperative play has been confined to Movie Night mode, which is built for people in the same room rather than players scattered across the internet. That limitation has been a recurring complaint about Supermassive's horror titles, which are designed to be shared with an audience. Shipping the online component in October lands it right as Halloween approaches, the point in the calendar when horror games tend to find their largest audience.
The timing matters more than it might first appear. Horror is a genre many people prefer to experience together, and couch co-op depends on everyone being free at the same time in the same place, which is far harder to arrange than a lobby. Adding an online option widens the number of players who can finish the story rather than watch someone else stream it. Whether the mode stays limited to the existing Movie Night structure or grows into a fuller online version is not yet clear, and that detail will decide how much really changes.
