Castlevania turns 40 as Konami teases a 3D collection
An anniversary video ends with a glance at portraits that fans read as a hint, while the original game is free on mobile for a limited run.
Castlevania is 40 years old, and Konami marked the anniversary with a retrospective video that walks through four decades of Belmonts. The clip ends with a shot of intact portraits in Dracula's castle, a detail fans are reading as a nod to the PlayStation 2 era of the series, which has never been collected in one place.
The anniversary also brought a giveaway: the 1986 original is free to download on iOS and Android for a limited time, which marks the first proper mobile release for the game. A new mainline entry, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, is set for October 15, the first of its kind in over a decade.
