Call of Duty details Modern Warfare 4 DMZ extraction mode

Activision has outlined a beefed-up extraction shooter on the Hajin map, with a 70-tier progression track replacing Zombies as MW4's third mode.

Call of Duty is filling Modern Warfare 4's third mode with DMZ, a full extraction shooter rather than the Zombies offering players have come to expect. Activision has finally detailed the mode ahead of the 23 October launch, and it is markedly larger than the DMZ beta trialled in Modern Warfare II back in 2022. The map is Hajin, a fictional region stitching together slices of South Korea, North Korea, and Russia, where factions contest materials and weapons. The post-campaign narrative is designed to grow through seasonal content drops.

The loop will feel familiar to genre veterans. Players build a loadout, infiltrate a hostile zone, take on missions against AI and rival operators, grab loot, then extract, or lose everything. A Forward Operating Base can be upgraded with a 3D printer, a Gunsmith for attachments, and a Vendor, supported by a 70-tier progression track with skills and operator traits. Enemies scale from North Korean grunts and armoured soldiers to combat drones and a Commander-tier tank. Contracts split into DMZ Orders, Dynamic Operations, and Side Ops.
