Astro Bot Rescue Mission Runs On Quest 3 In New VR Mod

A PSVR exclusive from 2018 reaches Quest 3 and PC VR through an emulator project, with a DualSense standing in for the PS4 pad.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission, the PSVR exclusive platformer from 2018, is now running on Quest 3 and PC VR thanks to a new mod. Modder Bigmak94 produced the port by asking an AI assistant to modify shadPS4, the open-source PlayStation 4 emulator. The result comes in two flavours: a native Quest 3 build that can be sideloaded and played on-device, and a PC VR version that streams to other headsets. The project is known as AstroQuest. Sony never brought the original to PSVR 2 despite its acclaim, and the flatscreen Astro Bot sequel did little to fill that gap.

The mod supports 6DOF headset tracking, native controller mapping and spatial audio, and a DualSense pad can stand in for the PS4 controller the game expects. On standalone Quest 3 the mobile GPU is pushed hard, so visuals run at lower resolution than the original hardware or the PC VR path. Modders still need a dumped copy of the game to use it. The release joins a wave of similar ports, including a recent Titanfall 2 VR mod, as AI-assisted tooling lowers the barrier to entry. Supporters argue easier modding tools open older, hard-to-find games to new audiences; critics point to the legal grey areas involved.
