Age of Empires studio loses half its staff in Xbox reset

World's Edge, the developer behind the strategy series, was hit hard by the latest Xbox cuts, and its next project has reportedly been cancelled.

The latest round of cuts at Xbox landed heavily on World's Edge Studio, the developer now responsible for the Age of Empires series. The reset was announced last Tuesday by Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty, with the studio's damage noted only in passing; former staff have since said just under half the team was let go, creative director Adam Isgreen among them.

Andrew Martz, a former senior software engineer at the studio, wrote that the reorganisation also cancelled the team's next project. World's Edge now answers to Activision, the same arrangement applied to Sea of Thieves developer Rare. Isgreen said he was proud of the studio's work in bringing real-time strategy back into the spotlight.
