Xbox Disc to Digital Passes 1,500 Games as SEGA Joins

SEGA titles have started working with Xbox Disc to Digital, and fan-made lists now count more than 1,500 supported games.

Disc to Digital has moved out of its brief Xbox Insider testing window and gone live for everyone, letting owners of physical Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs claim a digital licence for the same game. SEGA titles have now started working with the programme, initially still inside Insider testing, making the publisher the latest major holdout to come aboard after Ubisoft appeared earlier in the month. Square Enix and Bandai Namco remain among the big names fans are still waiting on. Claiming the licence still requires inserting the physical copy first, so the disc in the box has not become pointless.

The catch is that support is not universal and Microsoft has never published an official compatibility list, so players have been assembling their own. Those community lists now count more than 1,500 supported games, a figure that keeps moving as fans test fresh disc after fresh disc. Xbox has never explained which titles fall outside the scheme or what disqualifies them. The SEGA addition arrived to little fanfare, surfacing quietly rather than through a formal announcement. For anyone with a shelf of physical Xbox games, the practical upside is a digital copy that no longer depends on a disc drive.
