Sony patent shows a controller that takes payments
A new filing describes a PlayStation controller able to accept touch payments from phones and bank cards, reported by VGC as a patent application.
A new Sony patent describes a PlayStation controller that can accept payments. According to VGC, which reported the application, the design covers touch payments taken from phones and from bank cards, turning the pad into something closer to a card reader than an input device.
A patent is not a product, and nothing about the filing commits Sony to shipping a controller with payment hardware inside it. What it does show is an idea being explored in the lab, where the controller stops being only a way to play and becomes a point of sale as well.
