Quest PTC Revamps Windows And Restores Classic Home Spaces
Horizon OS 2.9 in the Public Test Channel reworks how windows behave and revives fan-favourite virtual spaces.
Meta's Public Test Channel has picked up the Horizon OS 2.9 build, and it brings the biggest rethink of Quest window handling in some time. Internally codenamed Display Evo, the update drops the old dock and lets 2D windows open spatially around the wearer. Panels can be grouped by pushing their edges together or arranged into a Stack that flips like a deck of cards. A new Window Manager, reached through Quick Settings, lists everything open so it can be raised or dismissed. The Classic Environments addition is a direct response to long-running user complaints about lost virtual spaces.
The same build reintroduces a set of Classic Environments, answering complaints that earlier virtual spaces had been removed with little warning. A submenu in the Home Editor currently offers Desert Terrace and Space Station, both rebuilt on the newer engine with free locomotion, and datamining suggests more are in development. Meta is also rolling out redesigned window control bars, a system-level QR scanner for Quest 3 and 3S, and tweaks to the Surface Keyboard and Touchpad ahead of its VR glasses. The update is still a test build, so features can shift or disappear before a stable rollout, and Meta often staggers availability across headsets.
