PS Portal firmware adds an 80 percent charging cap
Sony's Remote Play handheld gets a battery-preserving option in system update 7.1.7.
Firmware 7.1.7 for the PlayStation Portal adds the option to stop charging at 80 percent, a setting that reduces long-term wear on lithium batteries. It is the same idea most phone makers ship, and it matters more on a device that spends much of its life plugged in next to a console.
The Portal is Sony's streaming handheld: it holds no games locally and plays a PS5 over Wi-Fi. The update is otherwise small, and there is no word on the wider software additions users have been asking for since launch.
