Monster Hunter Wilds Hits 30FPS on Switch 2

Capcom says the portable version holds a steady frame rate after a painstaking effort, due on 5th December.

Monster Hunter Wilds will arrive on Switch 2 running at a stable 30 frames per second, and getting there was not simple. Capcom described the optimisation as a painstaking and seemingly endless process, the kind of work that turns a heavy current-generation title into something that survives on portable hardware. The port is scheduled for 5th December and will ship with local co-op support, echoing the handheld hunting sessions that players remember from the PSP and 3DS era of the series, when groups gathered in person to take down monsters together.

The Switch 2 version will also include the free content updates released since launch, bringing new monsters and other additions into the package rather than leaving owners behind. A locked 30 frames per second is a modest target compared with the higher frame rates available on more powerful machines, but holding that figure consistently is what separates a playable port from a compromised one. Capcom has not detailed resolution, storage requirements or whether further performance tuning will follow after release. Owners of the existing version will likely want to know how the port handles the game's densest areas.
