Minecraft Dungeons 2: reviews and a turn to vanilla
Early scores are warm but uneven, and the developers say the sequel deliberately steps closer to base Minecraft's mechanics.
Early reviews for Minecraft Dungeons 2 are landing before its September 29 release, and they are mostly warm without being rapturous. Destructoid gave it 9/10, GamesRadar 3.5/5 and IGN 6/10, the last finding little to stand out beyond the new Sift realm. The 2020 original settled at 70 on PC and 74 on Xbox One on Metacritic.
The developers told GameSpot the sequel deliberately moves closer to vanilla Minecraft, a shift the first game avoided while it was still establishing its own identity. Familiar systems return in new forms, including four armour slots, Enchantment Books and jumping. The world is now one connected landscape running on Unreal Engine 5, with regions such as the Howling Woods and Frozen Highlands and no loading screens between them.
