Mafia III: Definitive Edition Hits PS5, Xbox Series
The 2016 open-world crime game gets native current-gen versions, running at 60fps and free for anyone who already owns it digitally.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition now has native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions, rolling out today as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game digitally. The re-release runs at 60 frames per second and bundles a range of visual and performance improvements over the original edition, finally bringing Lincoln Clay's New Bordeaux to current hardware without compromise. On Xbox, owners may need to search for the Series X|S build manually on the store before it shows up in their library alongside the older version.
2K Games set the precedent earlier this year, giving Mafia: Definitive Edition a dedicated PS5 overhaul. With Mafia III now following suit, and the same treatment widely expected for Mafia II: Definitive Edition, the publisher looks to be modernising the whole trilogy one entry at a time. New buyers can pick up the Definitive Edition outright, while returning owners simply claim the upgrade at no extra cost, with no repurchase and no subscription required. The upgrade applies to the digital Definitive Edition already sitting in most owners' libraries.
