Critical Role joins Rockbeasts, launching January 2027

Lichthund's band-management RPG lands a publishing partner in Critical Role and two cast members from the storied actual-play troupe.

Rockbeasts, the rock-and-roll management RPG from developer Lichthund, has found both a partner and a launch window. The studio announced that Critical Role is joining the project on the creative and publishing side, a deal its makers describe as the support that lets the game become the version they always wanted rather than a compromise. The title arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch and PC in January 2027. Lichthund has been building the project for years and says the partnership arrives at exactly the right moment.

The announcement came with a casting reveal: Critical Role's Matthew Mercer and Sam Riegel are joining the voice cast. In Rockbeasts you sit in the manager's chair rather than on stage, juggling a tight budget and oversized personalities as a scrappy band climbs from garage rehearsals to the biggest venues around, putting out creative fires and keeping the whole fragile operation together long enough to make it. Lichthund frames the partnership as a way to protect an unusual premise in a market that rewards safe, easily categorised releases. A wishlist page is already live.
