Alan Ritchson Confirmed for Helldivers Movie in 2028
Sony Pictures pushed the adaptation from November 2027 to June 2028 and confirmed its lead for the unit.
Sony Pictures has confirmed that Reacher star Alan Ritchson will appear in the film adaptation of Helldivers, playing one of the soldiers the series is named after. The studio also moved the release from 10 November 2027 to 9 June 2028. Justin Lin, who directed several Fast and Furious films, remains attached to direct, with Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment producing. Ritchson had previously been reported to be in talks for the role earlier in September. The adaptation has been in development for well over a year.
Sony's synopsis describes an elite unit of soldiers battling alien creatures that threaten the fictional planet Super Earth, though it is unclear whether Ritchson leads the cast. Jason Momoa was originally attached to star and left the project over the summer for reasons that were never explained. Announced in January 2025, the adaptation drew criticism after fans learned that Lin was not a games player; the chief executive of Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead later said he trusted the director with the property. No casting beyond Ritchson has been confirmed by the studio, leaving the rest of the unit unannounced.
