WoW: Forever beta lost its character-name filter

A senior producer says the studio is kicking offensive character names and has little patience for complaints.

World of Warcraft: Forever has been running its first beta week, and the naming filter did not come online as intended, letting offensive character names through at creation. Senior game producer Tom Ellis has acknowledged the gap and said accounts behind the worst names are being removed from the beta, adding that the studio can see every character an account has made.

The beta has drawn enormous numbers, which is why the moderation problem scaled quickly. Blizzard has also been using the week to discuss feedback on the spinoff's systems, including planned adjustments, so the naming issue is arriving alongside a broader review of what testers want changed.
