Witcher 3 Path Tracing at 4K Needs an RTX 5080

New system requirements are forgiving at the low end, but 4K path tracing demands DLSS, frame generation and a flagship graphics card.

CD Projekt Red published updated system requirements alongside the remaster, and the good news is that the lower end of the table is forgiving. Running the game on Low at 30fps calls for nothing newer than a GeForce GTX 1660, a Radeon RX 550 XT or an Intel Arc A580, paired with an i5 8400 or a Ryzen 5 2600 and 12GB of memory. Path tracing is another matter entirely. The top preset asks for an i9 13900K or a Ryzen 7 9800X3D working with a GeForce RTX 5080, alongside 24GB of system memory and 16GB of video memory.

To reach an estimated 60fps at 4K with that mode switched on, players must run both DLSS and frame generation, and AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT does not appear among the supported options. CD Projekt Red does not say which upscaling setting is assumed for the figure. The payoff should be richer shadows and highlights, though whether that justifies the cost depends on the hardware and the player. Anyone still using the machine they played Wild Hunt on in 2015 will not manage even the lowest settings, but owners of the original get the remaster free.
