VR specs compared: Quest 3, Steam Frame, Meta VR

A spec breakdown weighs Meta VR Glasses against Quest 3 and Valve Steam Frame, and finds the cheapest option still holds its own on optics.

Road to VR has compared three headsets now chasing the same buyers. Meta VR Glasses arrive in Spring 2027 at 1,299 dollars and are pitched at productivity and private screens rather than gaming, with a light hundred-gram frame that offloads battery and computing to a pocketable puck, a narrow 70-degree horizontal field of view and micro-OLED displays. Quest 3, on sale since October 2023, costs 599 dollars, keeps a much wider view and a huge library, and remains the easy, budget-friendly pick for most people.

Steam Frame began shipping this month from 1,059 dollars and targets enthusiasts who value tinkering and PC streaming, though its standalone catalogue is still thin and it lacks a colour passthrough camera. The breakdown notes that the two pricier devices are far closer on raw specs than the cost gap suggests, with Quest 3 even leading in some areas such as optics. Meta has not said when a Quest 4 might appear, leaving Quest 3 as the current target for most developers building on Horizon OS.
