Star Wars Zero Company restores furloughed staff
Bit Reactor has begun returning laid-off and furloughed developers to work after the strategy game's launch, with more than half of payroll reportedly back.
Bit Reactor, the studio behind Star Wars Zero Company, has begun bringing back staff it furloughed before the strategy game launched. In a social media update the developer said it has returned more of its team to work as it continues to support the title, and reports put the number of employees back on payroll at more than half of the studio's former headcount. The furloughs had been announced in the run-up to release as the team braced for an uncertain launch and a crowded autumn release calendar.
Studio head Greg Foertsch said the aim is to eventually restore as many positions as possible. The recovery is a rare piece of good news for a sector that has spent two years shedding jobs, and it suggests the game's reception has given Bit Reactor room to keep updating Star Wars Zero Company, potentially opening the door to paid expansions alongside its regular patches. The studio has not confirmed how many people will return in total, nor what a larger roadmap beyond ongoing support might look like.
