Songs of the Past Exists Because CDPR Had More to Say
The next Witcher 3 expansion heads to Dandelion home region and aims for a dreamier tone than a standard monster-hunting story.
The remaster arrived alongside news that Songs of the Past, a full expansion, is due next year, roughly twelve years after Wild Hunt first launched. Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, creative vision director at support studio Fool's Theory, explained that the team simply felt there was more ground to cover with characters fans already know well. The expansion is a complete story first, she said, and it gives the studio a chance to show familiar faces from a fresh angle rather than tie off loose threads. It is not an attempt to close something out, but rather a belief that there is still plenty left to say.
The setting is Lettenhove, home region of Dandelion, the bard who has travelled beside Geralt for years, and the story grows out of his past. That choice reflects a broader ambition to spend more time with the people around the protagonist rather than the monster of the week. CD Projekt Red has also confirmed a new chain weapon that the studio wanted to include in the base game but could not implement at the time. Tonally, early signs suggest something dreamier than a standard Witcher tale, echoing the mood of Blood and Wine.
