Next Gears of War Won't Take Nearly as Long

After the seven-year wait between Gears 5 and E-Day, The Coalition's studio head says the following game is being planned for a shorter gap.

The Coalition studio head Mike Crump says players will not wait seven years for the next Gears of War. Gears of War: E-Day has finally arrived, closing the longest gap in the series' history: Gears 5 launched back in 2019, and the original trilogy shipped inside a five-year span, so the wait between sequels had grown well beyond what the studio once delivered. Crump told the BBC that E-Day lays a great foundation for what comes next, and that the following game will not take nearly as long to produce.

His comments come as the Microsoft-owned studio faces uncertainty over Microsoft's planned 3,200 job cuts, including reports that E-Day's story director was let go just before launch. Crump said he tells his team to focus on the things they can control, such as shipping a game players will love. Gears 5 ended on a major cliffhanger, so there is still plenty left to resolve whenever the next chapter lands. Crump stopped short of confirming a date, a platform or even a concept for that follow-up.
