Ubisoft Montreal

What Ubisoft Montreal is

Ubisoft Montreal is the Montreal development studio of the French game company Ubisoft. Ubisoft's own announcement about its North American production operations describes Montreal as the company's first Canadian studio, founded in 1997. Ubisoft's corporate careers site lists the studio's address as 5505 boulevard St-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec. The studio runs its own website, recruitment pages, a press room with media contact details and a sign-up for playtests, and it publishes studio news and local project announcements there.

The studio is part of the wider Ubisoft group rather than an independent company, and its position inside that group is documented in Ubisoft's October 2023 announcement that it was bringing the management of all of its North American production studios together under Christophe Derennes, then managing director of the Montreal studio. Montreal became the North American hub for Ubisoft's production operations, with the consolidation expected to be in place by September 2024. The studio's press room records that Pierre-Jules Tremblay was appointed managing director of Ubisoft Montreal on July 10, 2024.

How the studio started

The studio traces its origin to 1997, when Ubisoft opened its first Canadian development studio in Montreal. That starting point shapes how the company describes its Canadian footprint today: the same 2023 announcement groups the Montreal, Quebec City, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, Toronto and Winnipeg studios with the US teams in San Francisco, Blue Mammoth Games in Atlanta and Red Storm Entertainment in Cary, North Carolina, describing the combined group as one of the largest video game production teams in the world.

Ubisoft Montreal also publishes notes about its own operations through its website. Its news feed carries entries such as the studio's first Canadian Impact Report, local hiring and competition announcements, a studio post on an internal tool for handling in-game toxicity dated October 17, 2024, and coverage of the Ubisoft Game Lab Competition. These items are published by the studio itself, and they form the main public record of what the Montreal team does outside the games it develops.

Rainbow Six Siege and what is published

In our database Ubisoft Montreal is tied to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. The game's Steam store entry names Ubisoft Montreal as the developer and Ubisoft as the publisher, and lists a release date of December 1, 2015. The studio is therefore credited as the developer of the title, while publishing sits with its parent company rather than with the Montreal team, which matches the group structure described on Ubisoft's corporate pages.

The official pages reviewed for this profile do not state the studio's headcount, revenue, unit sales or the number of games it has shipped, and no such figures appear in Ubisoft's studio announcements or press room entries used here, so none are given. What the record does document is the studio's identity as a Ubisoft development team, its Montreal address, its founding year of 1997 and its credited work on Rainbow Six Siege.

The studio's press room also carries dated items about the wider organisation, including a Canadian Impact Report for 2024-2025 published on October 2, 2025 and an announcement dated July 16, 2025 about Ubisoft naming co-CEOs of a new subsidiary. Because those entries are published on the studio's own press page, they serve as the studio's public channel for both its local operations and group-level news that affects its studio.
