What Bethesda Game Studios is

Bethesda Game Studios is the development team credited on The Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Starfield. Its own site describes it as the award-winning development team behind those three series, and names four of its releases as Game of the Year winners: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. The same page lists Rockville, Montreal, Austin and Dallas, while the Bethesda brand site files the studio under Washington D.C., Montreal, Austin and Dallas.

The studio publishes one hard launch figure about itself: Starfield reached ten million players in less than three weeks, described there as the biggest launch in the studio's history. The same page states that the team is in preproduction on The Elder Scrolls VI. No founding year appears on the studio's own pages, so this profile does not give one.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim has a page of its own inside Bethesda's Elder Scrolls site. That page presents the Anniversary Edition as a bundle of Skyrim Special Edition with the Creation Club content that existed when the edition launched, and states that the game has won more than 200 Game of the Year awards. Bethesda Game Studios is named on the Bethesda site as the team behind the series it belongs to.

The title has kept moving onto new hardware. Bethesda's Elder Scrolls news feed dates the Anniversary Edition release on Nintendo Switch 2 to 9 December 2025 and describes it as the game arriving on a further portable platform with technical enhancements. A July 2025 entry on the same feed repeats the studio's own line about the game's award count and links to a page that introduces new players to the game.

Where the studio sits in the group

ZeniMax Media's about page lists The Elder Scrolls and Fallout among the group's properties and describes Bethesda Softworks, not Bethesda Game Studios, as the division founded in 1986. The studio's own site carries a general-information block for Bethesda Softworks LLC at 1370 Piccard Drive in Rockville, Maryland, with a telephone number and a press address, which is the publishing side of the same group.

Ownership changed in 2021. An Xbox post dated 9 March 2021 states that Microsoft completed its acquisition of ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks, and names Bethesda Game Studios first among the eight development studios welcomed into the Xbox family. The earlier announcement, dated 21 September 2020, measured the Bethesda group at 2,300 people worldwide and listed the companies involved, from Bethesda Softworks through to Roundhouse Studios.

How the studio talks to players

Bethesda's main site runs the community hub, a support portal and a Creations and mods section, and the studio's own pages carry a news feed mixing patches and public test servers. Recent entries there cover a Fallout 76 public testing server for a World Pets feature and a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 dated 17 September 2026.

In July 2026 the studio published a note about its plans. Signed by Bethesda Game Studios, it refers to forty years of building games and to almost half a billion players, and lists Fallout, The Elder Scrolls and Starfield as the areas the team is working on. The note is a statement of intent rather than a list of dated announcements.
