Death Stranding was the studio's first developed title and was announced at the E3 conference in June 2016. In May 2019 the studio announced that the game would launch on PlayStation 4 on 8 November 2019, and the PC version followed in July 2020. The studio itself remains independent: it describes itself in its user agreement as Kojima Productions Co., Ltd., a corporation incorporated in Japan, and it handles its own website terms and player agreements rather than operating as a label inside another publisher.
Awards and the tenth anniversary
The company timeline notes that the studio won three awards at The Game Awards 2019, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and that Hideo Kojima received the Fellowship Award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in March 2020 and the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts from the government of Japan in March 2022.
