What Golf Scope Inc. is

Golf Scope Inc. is the company behind GOLF+, the VR golf game. The terms of service published for the game state that the GOLF+ service is operated by Golf Scope, Inc. The Meta Quest listing separates the two roles on one page: Golf Scope Inc. appears in the developer field and GolfScope Inc. in the publisher field of the same product. The company's own site uses the GOLF+ name throughout for the product it makes.

The company's careers page says it is headquartered in Austin, TX, and its footer carries the line Copyright © 2026 Golf Scope, Inc. Its own pages describe one product line rather than a catalogue: the VR game, a mixed-reality putting mode built on it, and a simulator product listed on the site without a release date. There is no separate corporate history page beyond the story told on the careers page.

How the company started

The company's account of its start sits on its careers page. Ryan Engle and Robert Holzhauer were randomly paired up on Jimmy Clay Golf Course in the spring of 2018. Engle had built a prototype of Golf Scope, an augmented-reality app designed to read the break of a green, and was testing it hole by hole. The app shipped, took App of the Day from Apple several times and was featured by MyGolfSpy, and Holzhauer joined full time as a cofounder.

Once the Oculus Quest launched in May 2019 the team went all in on VR and built Pro Putt, getting a physics prototype accepted into the Oculus Store and partnering with Topgolf to launch it. That game released in May 2020 as a putting-focused experience, gained a virtual Topgolf mode for up to eight players in November 2020, and was followed in November 2021 by the launch of GOLF+ alongside a partnership with the PGA of America.

The PGA TOUR agreement

The company's most detailed public statement is its PGA TOUR announcement, published on the GOLF+ site and dated 15 December 2022. It describes a long-term agreement making GOLF+ the official virtual reality golf game of the PGA TOUR, with tournament courses to be added beginning with TPC Scottsdale and TPC Sawgrass early in 2023, and further venues to join the roster in the years after that. The tour's licensing executive is quoted in the same release.

The release names the company's leadership and its position at the time: Ryan Engle as co-founder and CEO, Rob Holzhauer as co-founder, hundreds of thousands of golfers having played more than six million rounds in less than a year since launch, and the game priced at $29.99 on the Meta Quest 2. Course and subscription plans sit on separate product pages rather than in the announcement.

What the company reports now

The current figures are published on the product pages rather than a corporate page. GOLF+ is described there as having more than two million players worldwide, more than four billion swings recorded in VR and more than forty courses, with more than fifty thousand five-star reviews on Meta. The same site lists a practice facility with shot statistics and a season-long tournament called the GOLF+ TOUR as part of the game.

The store page for the game's physical kit describes GOLF+ Pass, the subscription that opens the course library, as starting with a seven-day free trial inside the game and then costing $49.99 for a first year on an annual plan. The same page states that the base game includes three original course designs and that a game key bought with a headset is redeemed in the Meta Quest store.
