Wolverine Disc Sales Reached a Third of the Total
Analyst data puts boxed copies at 35% of the superhero game's September sales, with Europe skewing even further toward discs.
Marvel's Wolverine moved roughly 2.16 million copies in September, and analyst firm Ampere Analysis estimates that about 35 per cent of those sales were physical discs, according to figures reported by The Game Business. Insomniac's superhero title launched on 15 September and finished as the second best-selling PS5 game of the month, behind only EA Sports FC 27. The split is starker in Europe, where 51 per cent of Wolverine's sales came from boxed copies, and more than two thirds of French buyers chose the disc version.
The numbers land amid Sony's controversial plan to wind down disc production for PlayStation by 2028, a decision that drew backlash from preservation groups and former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden. Ampere's data shows single-player games routinely keep physical above 30 per cent of sales, including Silent Hill: Townfall and The Blood of Dawnwalker, a pattern that undercuts the idea that discs are a niche concern. Meanwhile GTA 6 has no disc release planned at all, with its special edition shipping only a download code in an otherwise empty box.
